"In the initial release only one class was available to each team, although eighteen classes are planned in total. The eighteen classes planned for the final version of PVKII are to include for the Pirates: Skirmisher, Captain, Sharpshooter, Freebooter, 'Ealer, and Swashbuckler. For the Vikings: Berserker, Huscarl, Gestir, Bondi, Seio-Kona, and Jarl. For the Knights: Heavy Knight, Archer, Man-at-Arms, Assassin, Cleric, and Lord. The release of beta 2.0 saw the inclusion of a further three classes and the Viking Gestir was introduced for 2.3. The overall class structure is designed for balance, with a variety of different classes being used to create effective strategies against the opposing teams. Each class' weapons follow the theme of their team: pirate classes use a variety of sabres, cutlasses and flintlock firearms, the Vikings use battle axes and spears and knight players have access to a range of swords and bows. Every class also has access to a unique special ability, which becomes available after a player has dealt sufficient damage to foes.
In Pirates, Vikings and Knights II all three teams have four distinct class archetypes:

Pirate players can choose from the Captain, Skirmisher, Sharpshooter or Buccaneer. Captains are armed with a cutlass, a blunderbuss and a parrot, which can be used for harassing enemies or as a distraction. Their special ability gives them the capability of firing an explosive cannonball from their blunderbuss. Skirmishers are equipped with a cutlass which they can lunge forward and impale enemies by using their special ability, six flintlock pistols and a gunpowder keg. Skirmishers move faster than most other classes.

* Tanks

The Vikings can play as a Berserker, Huscarl, Gestir or Bondi. A berserker possess a two-handed bearded axe as well as a shorter axe and shortsword. Berserkers can use their special ability to drive themselves into a bloodlust, allowing them to move faster and attack more effectively. The huscarl is armed with a shortsword and a shield which can be used to ram enemies with their special ability, six throwing axes and a two-handed axe. The gestir is equipped with a shield and langseax, javelins which can be thrown at enemies, and a spear which can use their special ability to charge enemies and knock them away.

The Knights have access to the Heavy Knight, Archer, Man-at-Arms and the Assassin. Heavy knights are slow moving but wield a longsword and can use their special ability to do a circular spinning attack. They are also equipped with a shield and a shortsword. By contrast, the archer is a fast moving class armed with both a crossbow and a longbow, and can use their special ability to fire three flaming arrows at once from the longbow. They are also equipped with a shortsword for close combat."

In Pirates, Vikings and Knights II all three teams have four distinct class archetypes:

 • Assault
 • Generalists
 • Rangers
 • Tanks

Archetypes

Assault

Assault can easily outmaneuver enemies or steal objectives from under enemy noses while also harassing backliners, thanks to their fast movement speed they can also easily get out of trouble if they deem things to be too hot to handle thanks to their low health/armor pools. They're perfect for objective-based gamemodes where they can easily pressure enemy capture points or picking off easy targets in modes like Last Team Standing.

Generalist

Generalists are damage dealers that tend to have a more versatile kit to allow them to easily fit into any team composition, often being seen fighting on the front line or helping Assault ambush unaware enemies. They tend to have middling stats and strong or long-reaching primaries, as well as some form of ranged weapon or option to help with Rangers or approaching enemies. They can easily do well in any gamemode.

Ranger

Rangers are the game's native backline ranged classes, dealing high damage from afar while also having very low health pools. They pair nicely with Tanks and Generalists as they can easily defend them while the Ranger focuses on priority targets. They're perfect for stationary objectives in modes such as Territory or defending the capture zone in Booty, but can be more aggressive for modes like Team Deathmatch with enough skill.

Tank

Tanks are slow but make up for it with high-damaging primaries and large health/armor pools. They often like to focus on defense when it comes to objective-based gamemodes such as Booty or Territory, though can also do immense damage in more directly combat heavy modes such as Trinket Wars where they are the perfect Trinket holder.

Teams and Roles

See each class' specific pages for more details on their unique abilities and weapons.

Pirates

The Pirate classes are the only ones who have access to blackpowder firearms and explosives (except Buccaneer), giving them the most consistent form of ranged as well as AOE damage over the other teams. Crowd control is their specialty!

Vikings

Viking classes have heavy hitting weapons and powerful throwing weapons, being capable of quickly killing classes with high burst damage. With their versatile kits they're well-rounded and suited for nearly any situation.

Knights

The Knight classes are a diverse spread of specialists, having two fast moving classes alongside the slowest but heaviest in the game. They're perfect for teamplay and contesting as well as holding objectives!
